The parents of recently deceased actor Anton Yelchin are seeking to sue the auto maker for the tragic shifter recall that caused the accident that took their son’s life. The actor received the recall in the mail exactly seven days after his untimely death and his parents feel that it is the responsibility of the auto maker.
His parents filed a lawsuit against Chrysler claiming that the company manufactured faulty gear shifters that led to the death of their son. The suit is a wrongful death suit and does outline some of the grisly details of the tragic accident. “Anton Yelchin was crushed and lingered alive for some time, trapped and suffocating until his death,” the lawsuit states.
The hope of Yelchin’s parents is that the lawsuit will draw attention to the unsafe business practices of the company and will force them to do things differently in the future. Chrysler is currently rushing their recall notices as it was found that approximately 250 accidents had been caused by the faulty shifter and 68 people had been injured as of late June 2016.
“In spite of our unbelievable grief, we decided to come here to prevent other families from the same tragedy,” Victor Yelchin said. His parent’s believe that the company waited to issue the recall when they knew how potentially dangerous it was and that it was this delay that caused the fatal accident.
They hope that the lawsuit will help save others and prevent other families from having to deal with these tragic circumstances.
