Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Put the Kids First Amid Divorce Drama
Hollywood’s golden couple has called it quits. On Monday, actress and humanitarian Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from her equally famous husband, actor Brad Pitt, after only two years of marriage. The papers stated that the couple officially separated on September 15.
Speculation swirled that the split had something to do with Pitt’s co-star, Marion Cotillard, but People Magazine quickly confirmed that rumors of infidelity between Pitt and his co-star are untrue.
“This decision was made for the health of the family,” said divorce attorney Lauren Wasserman, who is Jolie’s legal representation. Multiple sources describe both Jolie and Pitt as devoted parents to their six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne.
Jolie is seeking primary physical custody of the children, while Pitt — who also released a statement — wants joint custody.
“I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids,” said Pitt. “I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time.”
People Magazine also reported that sources close to the couple say there is “sadness on both sides” and that both Jolie and Pitt’s number one priority is their children.
