Bryan Cranston has been cast as Zordon in the upcoming film reboot of the popular Power Rangers television show.

Zordon, who is portrayed as a holographic floating head, is the wise mentor to the Power Rangers with a booming voice. Though Zordon cannot fight alongside the Power Rangers, his role is integral to their success against enemies.

The role is a return to the franchise for Cranston, who voiced several monsters on the original series and was popular on set. In fact, due to his popularity, the Blue Ranger was given the last name Cranston as a way to honor Bryan Cranston’s involvement with the show.

Elizabeth Banks was previously cast as Rita Repulsa, the arch-nemesis of Zordon and the Power Rangers. The first images of Banks as Rita shows an updated look, but very fitting the actress who is well-known for her over-the-top costumes, make-up, and hair in her role as Effie Trinket in the Hunger Games franchise. There is no word yet if Cranston’s portrayal of Zordon will be updated or remain true to the original series.

The Power Rangers film just debuted.
