All Nyle DiMarco heard during his standing ovation for winning season 22 of “Dancing With the Stars” was silence.

Nothing.

DiMarco is the first deaf person to win the Mirror Ball trophy. He was also only the second deaf contestant to compete on the popular prime time show, as Marlee Matlin was eliminated in season six. DiMarco’s partner was Peta Murgatroyd who helped him beat out  Ginger Zee and her partner Val Chmerkovskiy, as well as UFC fighter Paige VanZant and her partner Mark Ballas.

“You have been incredible,” judge Bruno Tonioli said after the pair finished a cha-cha/tango fusion dance with flair. “Nyle, you have given us season 22’s most memorable performances.”

Judge Carrie Ann Inaba brought model DiMarco, and the audience, to tears by delivering some of her closing remarks to him and the audience in sign language. Inaba said she signed “Thank you for showing us your beautiful heart when you dance,”

Both Meteorologist Ginger Zee and VanZant were gracious in defeat.

With the ending of “Dancing Withe Stars” still fresh on everyone’s mind, “The Bachelor” has now taken the time slot and is shaping up to be one of the best seasons yet.
